Gaana.com Launches App On Facebook

Gaana.com, an Indian music streaming site from the IndiaTimes stable, has integrated itself into Facebook's new Timeline.

Through this, users can now share the music they are listening to with their Facebook friends. Clicking on it will take the user to the gaana.com website, where one can choose the music they want to listen to. When a user listens to a song, a message is posted on his Facebook profile, indicating which song they are listening to.

Earlier, Gaana.com became the first music site in India to build an iPad version using HTML5.

Rishi Khiani, CEO of Times Internet Ltd said, "We have always believed music is discovered via common tastes and peer to peer recommendation. With gaana.com's integration on Facebook's Timeline, we expect to see strong traction of our content and an increased user base via Facebook." The app has already got some 0.14 million 'Likes' on Facebook.

But, it is not the only company to have done that. Two month back US-based Saavn (which stands for South Asian Audio Video Network), a five year old digital media start-up for Indian music, also launched a similar application on Facebook. Saavn has 1.38 million 'Likes' on Facebook.

Gaana.com have songs in various languages like Hindi, English Tamil,Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali. They also feature albums and various devotional songs. In contrast, Saavan which is also available on Android and iOS, has only Hindi, Tamil and Punjabi tracks.

Facebook, recently launched timeline apps (Timeline apps allow for real-world activities to be shared with friends), with 60 applications to begin with.
