Flipkart appoints Yahoo India's Aparna Ballakur as HR head

India's largest online retailer Flipkart has appointed Aparna Ballakur as its chief people officer (CPO). Till recently, she was VP (Human Resources) at Yahoo India.

In her new position, Aparna will lead the human resources function and will take care of the 4800- strong Flipkart team. She will help the leadership team with all strategic aspects of HR and will also be a part of the executive team. Aparna will even contribute to the overall management of the business.

Talking about her new role, Aparna said, "Flipkart is a brand that has been re-defining the e-commerce sector in India. I am looking forward to being a part of this growing organisation."

With more than one-and-a-half decades of experience in talent acquisition and development, employee engagement, designing reward strategies and managing mergers and acquisitions, Aparna had previously worked with organisations like Adobe Systems, Netscout Systems, McAfee Software and Sasken Communication Technologies. She holds a BE degree from the University of Mysore and completed certificate programmes in Executive Leadership from Cornell University and Human Resources for Strategic Advantage from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Binny Bansal, co-founder and COO of Flipkart, said, "We feel that her extensive experience in startups and large organisations will help Flipkart plan and manage the most critical resource – our people."
