Mumbai Angels backs online events planner BookEventz

15 Dec, 2015

BookEventz, previously called UrbanRestro, a one-stop platform for event planning requirements, has raised an undisclosed amount from angel investors led by Mumbai Angels.

Other participants in this round include Singapore Angel Network (SGAN) and Zishaan Hayath, founder and CEO of Toppr.com.

The new capital will be used to upgrade technology and invest in marketing strategies.

BookEventz, run by Urban Online Services Pvt. Ltd., was founded by Shriti Chhajed and Harsh Baid in 2012. Shriti is an MBA from SP Jain School of Management, while Baid is an alumnus of IIT Mumbai and IIM Lucknow.

BookEventz enables consumers to organise parties and select vendor services from the platform. It will also be increasing its service offerings for events to include artists, themes, caterers, and decorators.

The company claims to have served 2000 customers in the month of November this year, and clocked GMV of Rs 1 crore. It is aiming to have more than 20,000 customers by July next year.

In the event planning segment, Weddingz.in, an online marketplace for wedding venues and vendors, has raised over $1 million (around Rs 6.7 crore) in angel funding from a group of investors, including Google India's managing director Rajan Anandan, recently.

In September this year, WedMeGood, a wedding planning portal that connects prospective couples with over 3,000 vendors, secured Rs 2.7 crore in seed funding from Indian Angel Network.
