IT lobby group National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) said Debjani Ghosh assumed office on Monday as its new president. Ghosh, who was microchip maker Intel Corp.’s managing director for South Asia, succeeds R Chandrashekhar.

In November 2017, Nasscom had said Ghosh was president-designate. A propagator of gender diversity in corporate India, Ghosh was the first woman to lead Intel India and MAIT, a manufacturers’ association of the IT sector.

Previously, she has also been a member of Nasscom’s executive council and a trustee of Nasscom Foundation.

Moreover, Ghosh has worked with the government and the industry to establish policies and accelerate tech adoption in India, the IT lobby group said.

“We are amid exponential shifts that require exponential change,” Ghosh said.

“Ghosh brings invaluable knowledge and experience to the table, and under her leadership I am confident that the industry will scale to greater heights of success,” said Raman Roy, chairman at Nasscom.

The technology industry, he said, was witness to huge disruption over the past few years and is currently on the cusp of a new growth era.

Last month, Nasscom had formed a partnership with the government’s top think tank, Niti Aayog, to boost innovation among women entrepreneurs in the country.

In January, Nasscom and Facebook had announced the winners for the second edition of the Code for the Next Billion programme.
