Artificial intelligence (AI) augmentation, which involves people and AI working together to enhance cognitive performance, will create business value worth $2.9 trillion and 6.2 billion hours of worker productivity globally in about two years, according to technology research firm Gartner.
Augmented intelligence, according to Gartner, includes tasks such as learning, decision making and new experiences.
The research firm further forecasts that by 2030, decision support or augmentation technologies will drive 44% of global AI related business value, surpassing all other AI initiatives. The barriers to the adoption of such technologies are relatively low, it added.
"The goal is to be more efficient with automation, while complementing it with a human touch and common sense to manage the risks of decision automation," Svetlana Sicular, research vice president at Gartner, said in a statement.
Last month, another Gartner study, AI/ML development strategies, said that organisations will treble the amount of artificial intelligence and machine learning projects in three years.
A study jointly undertaken by Dell Technologies and California-based think-tank Institute for the Future (IFTF) suggested that frontier technologies such as AI will reshape the work environment.
