Infibeam Launches Daily Deals Section Magic Box; To Use Shopping Cart Data

Pure play e-commerce companies will integrate Groupon type daily deals into their platforms. For starters, Indian e-commerce company Infibeam.com has launched a daily deals section on its website. Called Magic Box, the deals are available on all categories on Infibeam, but it will be one deal per day. It shouldn't be confused with its Hot Deals section, which is usually heavy discounts on certain products.

Magic Box is not just a supply-focused daily deals site, according to Infibeam CEO Vishal Mehta. Unlike a deals site, it uses intelligence collected from customers to figure out what they really want.

Deals being offered on Magic Box are decided using 10 parameters including new launches, aspired products, and unbeatable deals being offered by the manufacturer. User reviews of the products on Infibeam.com and the number of visitors looking at a particular product are also factored in.

But here is the main difference - Infibeam uses data from the Wish List (or Shopping Cart as it is more popularly known on other e-commerce websites) to decide which deal will be successful and then offer it to its customers. Something that other e-commerce players might have missed out on utilising.

"Customers have shared their intent to track a product through the Wish List. So what we did is try to give them a reason to buy it right away. The reason to convert and purchase generally is that they want a better deal. We are trying to break that barrier to purchase," Mehta says. He claims the conversions are in double digits and the deals are seeing good uptake from customers. Shipping for products priced less than Rs 100 is being charged.

The company is planning to roll out a more 'personalised' Magic Box in the next few weeks.
