BigFlix, a part of Reliance Group's Digital entertainment business today announced a license deal between online movie on demand service BigFlix plus (which allows the user to watch movies by paying a monthly subscription fee) and UTV Motion Pictures, that will make available more than 45 UTV movie titles to BigFlix plus subscribers.
The movies will be from the UTV banner and the subscribers can view them at their preferred time, sans the advertisements across devices such as desktop, Tablets, smartphones and connected TVs. Some of the titles include Jodhaa Akbar, Wake Up Sid, Raajneeti, I Hate Luv Storys, No One Killed Jessica, Dev D, Udaan, Fashion, Race, and Kaminey among others.
"Our partnership with UTV is a step closer to enhance and expand the VOD (Video on Demand) service in India and we are confident this partnership will add significantly to our movie offering," said Pankaj Chandra, Chief Operating Officer (COO), BigFlix Pvt Ltd.
Established in 2004, the motion pictures division of UTV is one of the only integrated studio models in the Indian film industry and its activities span across creative development, production, marketing, distribution, licensing, merchandising and syndication of films worldwide. Its upcoming movies include Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Barfii, Rowdy Rathore, Heroine, Joker, among others.
"Pay per View (PPV) and Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) options on internet platforms are a great way for audience to watch movies at their convenience. This is the one of our first internet deals in India," said Amrita Pandey, senior VP, International Distribution and Syndication, UTV Motion Pictures.
The digital portfolio of Reliance Entertainment comprises of businesses such as Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd, Jump Games Pvt. Ltd, Big Adda and BigFlicks Pvt Ltd. Earlier this month, Rohit Sharma, chief executive officer of Reliance Entertainment (Digital) had put in his papers and is now launching his own e-commerce venture which will focus on kids.
