Online video service provider iStream has announced the launch of its video app for Windows 8, a free app which enables users to get access to videos across news, TV and movies in English, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. The company claims that it is India's first and only video app to be featured in the Windows 8 app store.

"Windows 8 is a unique platform with a distinct feature. The same operating system, which works on a Tablet, will work on a PC too. We redesigned our app according to the platform on the basis of look and feel, usability, as well as integration with the platform," said Mridul Agarwal, director - product management team, iStream. He also said that the app had seen 5,000 downloads in just 4 days after the launch.

iStream, run by Bangalore-based A2 Media Pvt Ltd, was founded in 2007 by Radhakrishnan Ramachandran (now the CEO of the company) and Chellappa Dhanukodi (currently, the CTO). In 2000, Ramachandran had co-founded Indiasyndicate.com, a content management company in the digital space, managing clients like MSN India. Before that, he was chief of bureau at CNBC. Dhanukodi has extensive experience in database technology, having worked with Oracle Corporation for more than five years where he managed multiple applications products.
