Samsung Launches Two New Galaxy Smartphones, One Each For Top End & Masses

Samsung has further expanded its range of Galaxy smartphones by launching two new mobile phones called Galaxy S Advance (GT-I9070) and Galaxy Pocket (GT-S5300). Both the mobile phones run on the Android operating system and are available for Rs 26,900 and Rs 8,150 for S Advance and Pocket respectively.

Galaxy S Advance for Rs 26,900

The mobile phone has a 4 inch WVGA super AMOLED touchscreen display (480x800 pixel resolution), runs on the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS and it is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor. It has 768MB of RAM and comes with 8/16GB of internal memory that can be further expanded to 32GB with the help of a microSD card.

The device comes with a 5MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash that can also record HD videos (720p) at 30 frames per second and a 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth v3.0, Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot) and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port.

The dimensions of the device are 123.2mm x 63mm x 9.7mm and its weight is 120 grams. The device has a 1,500mAh battery that the company claims will provide up to 7.5 hours of talk time. The mobile phone has stereo FM with RDS and it will be available in black and white colours. The mobile also features 'Find My Mobile' which is a lost-phone management system that allows users to trace their lost phone via a web browser (samsungdive.com) and delete their data remotely.

Galaxy Pocket has a 2.8 inch TFT touchscreen display (240 x 320 pixel resolution) and it also runs on the Android 2.3 OS. It is powered by 832MHz processor and comes with 3GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

It comes with a 2MP rear camera that can also record videos but no front facing camera. On the connectivity front, the device comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G and it also has a micro USB 2.0 port. The dimensions of the device are 103.7mm x 57.5mm x 12mm and it weighs 97 grams. The device has a 1,200mAh battery that should provide decent battery life. It will be available only in black colour.

The company has also introduced a couple of apps for Indian users on its app store that include; My Reader app- users can access over 3 lakh books (from Landmark), 26 newspapers, 28 magazines and popular comic titles such as Amar Chitra Katha; My Music app- allows users to download and listen to more than 1 lakh songs from Hollywood/Bollywood and popular regional titles; Handy app- lets users search, book and pay for travel (flights, trains etc) and movie tickets, search a restaurant by cuisine and reserve a table. The app also allows users to create their own stock portfolio/get real time stock prices and stay updated on business news; Mobile TV app- allows users to watch TV shows; and My Movies app- gives users access to movies and videos trailers. The smartphones also come with Samsung's Social Hub and ChatON (for instant messaging) services.
