Alibaba.com, the Chinese e-commerce platform to connect buyers and sellers around the world, formally made its India foray in September 2010, by initiating customer service operations, betting on strong growth and a surge in market demand.

On the sidelines of India Internet Day Summit organised by TIE, a non-profit organization that promotes entrepreneurship globally, Techcircle caught up with Khalid Isar, country general manager of Alibaba.com, who spoke about India as a market for the Chinese platform, its business model, marketing strategy and India-specific plans.
