Homegrown mobile handset manufacturer Micromax Informatics Ltd's Funbook Pro tablet is now available for purchase online from e-commerce site Snapdeal.com. The tablet has a 10-inch screen (unlike the original Funbook that sported a 7 inch screen) and is available for Rs 9,999.

The tablet has a 10.1 inch TFT LCD capacitive touch screen display (1,024×600 pixel resolution) and runs on the latest Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A-8 processor (with Dual Mali 400- 2D/3D Graphics processor for multimedia processing) and comes with 1 GB RAM. The internal memory of the device is 8GB, which is expandable up to an additional 32GB with a microSD card.

The device features a front facing VGA camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, the tablet has Wi-Fi and it comes with a microSD port, USB port and a HDMI port, which means it will support HD video playback.

The exact dimensions of the device were not available, but the company has provided a 5,600 mAh battery in the device, which should offer decent battery life.

The company had first entered the Indian tablet market with a 7-inch model of the Funbook in April. Even at the time, the tablet was being sold exclusively on Snapdeal.com. In comparison to the 7-inch model, the new one has twice the RAM, twice the internal memory, two times the battery and costs Rs 3,500 extra.

Like its predecessor, the new tablet is also being promoted as an edutainment tablet and is targeted at students. The company has added pre-loaded content that includes courses that cover Class 1 to under-graduate level and also sample papers/study material for MBA, medical or engineering exams.

The company is also offering a Tata Docomo Photon+ Data card with the device (although activation and delivery of the Tata Docomo Photon+ postpaid connection will be done through Tata Teleservices stores/call centre at a fee of Rs 500 which will be borne by the customer). The device also comes pre-loaded with a number of entertainment apps.

In the same segment (for both 7- and 10-inch tablets), the device will compete with Zinglife EPAD (Rs 9,699), Zync Z-990 (Rs 8,500), iBerry Auxus AX02 (Rs 9,900), Mercury's mTab (Rs 9,499), Beetel Teletech's Beetel Magiq II (Rs 9,799), HCL ME Tab U1 (Rs 7,999) and Micromax's own Funbook (Rs 6,499).

If you happen to visit the Micromax site, it still shows the device as 'coming soon'.
