A sneak peek at the 10 startups showcased at Techcircle Startup 2012
Techcircle.in, your favourite tech startup news website (yes we are!), held an event at the Le Meridien, New Delhi. The event, a one-day MBA in starting up, was of startups, for startups and had several successful startup founders sharing their journey and learning. During the course of the event, we also showcased 10 of India's most promising tech startups that were individually selected from a number of applications received by Techcircle.in. Here is a quick look at them.
Postergully.com is an online platform that helps brands monetise through merchandise. For the same, the company partners with bands, brands, and schools and colleges and manufactures exclusive merchandise for them in the form of posters, art prints, key chains, stickers, badges, sweat-shirts, etc. These are then offered on the site, and the company shares revenue with the brands for the merchandise sold.
The company provides free internet sessions in high traffic establishments (by leveraging its patent-pending ad focused technology) with the focus on Wi-Fi ads. Currently, it is present in over 200 fixed locations across 40 different cities, running campaigns for some of the country's most well recognised brands.
Using Spurfy.tv app, viewers can find and purchase products merchandised on the Live TV from their smartphones. The products can range from Bear Gryll's backpack from Man vs Wild, to a complete season of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, while watching an episode of the show. The channel or the show producer shares the product listing for their shows with Spurfy. The mobile app recognises the currently running channel by voice recognition and returns the products related to the on-going show. Spurfy acts as a marketplace and gets its revenue by charging a commission of 5-15 per cent from the merchants.
Askabt is a plug-in for the web that enables businesses to create communities on their website. The USP of the product is its 'LIVE communities', which enables the users to interact via integrated group chats. The engaging, conversational and always available communities allow users to talk about the products being offered by the businesses, or the businesses themselves and increase the quality and quantity of customer engagement (comments, reviews, etc.)
RLTgo.com is a travel platform that fulfils the needs of urban travellers bored of the usual Nainital, Shimla circuits, by providing them with information on unchartered territories and offbeat destinations. The company organises and categorises all the scattered info on places, experiences and cultures in the form of apps, games and a website.
Musicfellas is a social indie music discovery platform wherein the users can discover music by independent artists and interact with people with similar music interests. It gives 70 per cent of the price of the song/album to the artistes, thereby promoting and supporting them. Started by Mayank Jain, Gaurav Shahlot and Shubranshu Jain, Musicfellas was also a part of Times Internet's incubator TLabs' latest accelerator batch which graduated earlier this month. Users can listen, share, mark favourite and purchase songs listed on the portal.
One52 is an online adaptive learning platform for students taking part in entrance exams like CAT, GMAT and more. One52 claims to have a scientifically designed algorithm that combines adaptive learning with a personalised study plan to help the candidates. It also features a social interaction platform that enables peer-to-peer interaction. It has different packages for the users starting from a free one to Rs 2,499. All packages vary in the number of tests the user can take. It was founded by Rohit Gulati and Deepak Nanwani in March.
TravelKhana aims to solve a "food-on-the-move" issue by making available fresh, tasteful food to Indian Railways' commuters. The company has a technology backend that maps all the routes and the restaurants that are available nearest to the stations to get the food delivered to the commuters in time. Hungry souls can call in the food or even place their orders online. Founders include Pushpinder Singh, Matteo Chiampo and Sidharth Misra.
Nupinch is an apparel discovery platform aimed at women customers, Nupinch allows them to search for desired dresses at various offline and online stores. At Nupinch, customers can select what kind of outfit they are looking for with the help of various filters and then they can see where it is available. The updation of merchandise lies with the merchants.
SnapLion is an online do-it-yourself app developing platform, Snaplion enables professionals to develop their own app in a short time and without any coding. It already boasts of customers like Anoushka Shankar, Karsh Kale, Sunburn Festival, Midival Punditz, Submerge Entertainment, Kohra, Humble the Poet and Kings XI, Punjab. It was started by Aditya Kapoor, Tapan Raj, Rohan G and Abhi Dhaliwai. Once the app has been designed, it can be previewed via a preview app on the Android and iOS app store. Snaplion also makes the inclusion of features like location-based services and push messaging available in a simple check-box manner. Initially started as a tool for musicians, it is now open to other fields and professionals too.
