Paytm app crosses 1M downloads in 4 months; revamps and adds bus ticketing option too

Paytm, the consumer brand of One97 Communication, that enables one to pay prepaid mobile phone bills online, DTH and data card recharge, postpaid bill payment, NH-8 toll-card recharge and bus ticket booking, has seen 1 million downloads on its Android app since January this year. It has also revamped the app and introduced the bus ticketing feature on the app.

Paytm has been slowly and steadily adding newer features to its app and portal since inception. Started as an online recharge site in April 2011, it has added DTH recharge, postpaid bill payment, toll recharge, bus ticketing and most recently an exclusive deals and utility bill payment option.

Talking to techcircle, Paytm CEO Harinder Takhar said overall the app has crossed more than 2 million downloads across platforms. The app is available on Android, iOS and Java. This is the app's version 3.0; it has a slew of new features like detailed price break up added, shows top up value, coupon value, discount, Paytm cash used and online paid amount, saves last three recharges, warning if transactions have been failing on a certain payment mode, etc.

One of the cool features is in mobile top-up wherein when a user enters an amount, he/she can also view indicative plans. This feature could be critically useful for prepaid users as various recharges available are sometimes not known and often one has to go the operator's site for the information. Also, users, who don't have Paytm accounts, can sync them with Facebook as well.

Paytm launched bus ticketing in December last year and claimed to sell 3,000 tickets on the first day itself. It has now launched bus ticketing on the Android and iOS app. In the update, it has also added a slew of newer brands in its exclusive deals. The bus ticketing feature looks quite slick and responsive (watch out for a full blown comparison with market leader redBus).
