Rocket Internet forays into vehicle classifieds, launches Carmudi in five countries

CarmudiRocket Internet, the German internet incubator, has launched yet another venture in multiple geographies simultaneously. Its new venture, Carmudi, is an emerging markets focused vehicle classifieds portal that will serve as a platform for buyers and sellers of cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. As of now, it has been rolled out in five countries—Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. More countries will be added soon.

The launch of Carmudi follows closely after Lamudi, a real estate classifieds portal which was launched earlier this month in 13 countries.

"After having developed our vehicle websites in five emerging markets in the past couple of months, we are excited to continue our global roll-out and unify all of our services under our new brand name Carmudi. So far, we have already signed a large number of vehicle dealers and agents across all markets, registered extremely fast growing traffic on our websites and received positive feedback from our users," said Koen Thijssen, MD-Asia Classifieds from Rocket Internet.

The portal Carmudi gives dealers and agents a personalised web page, where buyers can find photos, updated listings, detailed descriptions, reports and rankings for all listed vehicles. Though both the classifieds portals are meant for emerging markets and have been launched in neighbouring regions, whether India features on the list is not immediately clear. Rocket Internet already runs a slew of e-commerce ventures in India, the most popular one being the fashion and lifestyle e-tailer Jabong.com.
