Excl: Mumbai-based online food ordering startup Deliverychef raises angel funding

VCCircle_DeliverychefMumbai-based Wishopedia Services Pvt Ltd, which runs an online food ordering site Deliverychef.in, has closed its angel round of funding from an Indian expat based in the US.

Talking to Techcircle.in, Ankita Tandon, co-founder and director, Deliverychef, shared that the capital will be used for scaling up the technology and expanding the team.

Tandon started the online food ordering site in 2010 along with Aditi Talreja. It started with operations in Mumbai and Pune and now also has presence in Delhi-NCR, Thane and Bangalore.

According to her, growth has been very strong in the past few months. "We have grown more than 300 per cent year-on-year," she said. Tandon shared that the site lists over 650 restaurants and is clocking more than 150 orders a day in Mumbai region alone.

"In a year, we plan to consolidate our market leading position in Mumbai and expand aggressively in the region. We will also start to enhance our footprint in NCR, Bangalore and other cities," Tandon added.

Deliverychef also offers catering services to corporates targeted at employees who stay late in office.

Online food ordering is an upcoming segment in the Indian online industry. Several players have mushroomed over the past one year or so. Key players in the sector include Rocket Internet's FoodPanda, JustEat India and BigBite.com.
