OppoChinese handset maker Oppo has further expanded its smartphone range in the country with the launch of Oppo R1. The smartphone runs on the ColorOS, which is basically a customised Android operating system fully developed by the company. First unveiled back in December last year, the smartphone has been priced at Rs 26,990 in India.

In addition, the company has also reduced the price of its flagship device Oppo N1 in the country. The device has received a five per cent (Rs 2,000) price cut and is now available for Rs 37,990. However, you can also get your hands on it for an even lower of Rs 37,230 on a number of e-commerce stores. N1 was first launched in India in Jan this year.

In India, the company already offers a number of smartphones that include Oppo N1, Find 5 mini, Neo, and the R1. Other smartphones in the company's portfolio include Oppo Joy, Yoyo and the Find 7.

Here is a look at the specifications of Oppo R1.

The smartphone sports a 5 inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (720x1280 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB. However, further memory expansion is not available.

Oppo R1 has an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash that can also record full high definition (1080p) videos, as well as a 5MP front facing camera for video calling. The camera has a BSI CMOS sensor, and its additional features include geo-tagging, voice shot, beautify, panorama, and High Dynamic Range (HDR). In terms of its pricing, the device will compete with the likes of Nokia Lumia 925 (Rs 27,399), Gionee Elife E7 (Rs 26,999), and Sony Xperia Z (Rs 27,349), among others. However, we feel the biggest competitor for the smartphone will be Motorola's Moto X offering that can be purchased for as low as Rs 23,999. In addition, if you are willing to spend a few extra bucks, we would suggest you altogether give Oppo R1 a miss and instead go for LG's Google Nexus 5 smartphone that is available for Rs 28,750.
