Within a month of launching its flagship device HTC One (M8) in the Indian market, Taiwanese manufacturer of tablets and smartphones HTC has now unveiled a mini version of the smartphone. Christened One mini 2, the device featuring a tightened 4.5 inch display and runs on the latest Android KitKat operating system.
According to the company, the One mini 2 will arrive in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as well as Asia starting next month, with availability varying by country and region.
Although we wonder when HTC will get over this weird nomenclature for its flagship devices, don't be surprised if the next version is called 'One mini 2 plus One'.
The smartphone sports a slightly smaller 4.5 inch HD Super LCD 2 capacitive touchscreen display (720x1280 pixels resolution) with 326 ppi pixel density, in comparison to M8's 5 inch full HD Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display. It runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS with HTC Sense 6 user interface. The device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB, which can be further expanded with a microSD card.
HTC One (M8)'s sibling boasts a 13 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED Flash that can also record full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second, and a 5MP front facing camera that can also record full HD videos. The front facing camera comes with a countdown timer for high-quality selfies. It also features 'Touch Up' software for subtle beauty enhancements that smoothens skin, eliminates red eye and adjusts facial contours, while preserving natural looks.
On the connectivity front, the device has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G & 4G LTE, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. The dimensions of the device are 137.4mm x 65mm x 10.6mm and its weight is 137gm. The company has provided a 2,110 mAh battery in the device, which it claims will provide over 16 hours of talk time and 556 hours of standby time. It has FM Radio with RDS, GPS (with A-GPS support), and Near Field Communication (NFC). One mini 2 will be available in gunmetal gray, glacial silver and amber gold colours.
HTC BoomSound: Equipped with the same amplifiers as the HTC One (M8), the One mini 2 delivers rich tones from bass through treble, producing high-quality, immersive sound through the dual frontal speakers, at least that is what the company claims.
HTC Sense 6 with BlinkFeed: Makes the content that matters to you more accessible and easier to read than ever, by turning your home screen into a live stream of the latest news and social updates. Aggregating feeds from a growing list of over 1,000 partners, adaptable tiles display your social media updates and favourite news topics, giving you the latest online content.
