Kapil Goswamy, founder and managing director at the company, said that online travel companies are primarily technology companies selling travel services but Trans India has an advantage over them as it is a travel company with lower costs and wider variety. Trans India was founded in 1990 by Goswamy. It offers corporate travel services under its Trans World Travels unit, inbound tours under Trans India Holidays and outbound holidays under its Trans World Holidays arm.

India's main online travel agencies are MakeMyTrip.com, Yatra.com, ClearTrip.com and Goibibo.com.
