Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group today said it has appointed Juergen Hase the Group CEO for its Internet of Things (IoT) business.

Based out of Reliance Group's headquarters in Mumbai, Hase will report to Group Managing Director, Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Reliance Group said in a statement.

Hase has over 25 years of experience in developing and executing new businesses in different global markets.

Till recently, he was Director IoT/M2M in Ooredoo at the Group level based in Qatar.

Prior to Ooredoo, he was Vice-President of the M2M Competence Centre at Deutsche Telekom (DT) for over a decade.

Reliance Group has drawn up a strategy with emphasis on leveraging its expertise across verticals like telecom, power and utilities, financial services, road and metro rail transportation, and healthcare to drive accelerated growth in the IoT space, it said.

Reliance Communications has already announced an IoT partnership with Jasper, which was subsequently acquired by Cisco, and various IoT solutions have been jointly piloted in India over the past few months in preparation of the commercial launch.

A few of the pilots already under way within the group include Smart Grid Management by Reliance Energy in the utilities sector to reduce power transmission and distribution losses, demand side management to help consumers lower their energy bills, and fleet management of maintenance vehicles.

Besides, Reliance General Insurance is piloting vehicle telematics to assess risk profile of vehicle insurance customers while Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital is using remote healthcare and assisted living.

"These are intended to be scaled up and made available for external customers under Juergen's leadership," the statement said.
