True Software Scandinavia, the Stockholm headquartered firm that operates caller identification platform Truecaller, has appointed its chief product officer (CPO) Rishit Jhunjhunwala as the managing director for its India operations too.

Currently based in Sweden, Jhunjhunwala will move to Bengaluru to drive the company’s business strategies, and expand its footprint and revenue in the Indian market, a statement said. He will oversee operations in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, in addition to his CPO responsibilities.

The executive joined the company in 2015 as vice president of product, and has since led the evolution of the Truecaller product, which started as a simple caller ID app but has transformed into a full-fledged search engine for phone numbers with additional features such as a dialer, payments, messaging and spam filtering.

“My journey with Truecaller has been exciting from day one, I have seen the company grow to be the third most used app in India. I am looking forward to my next venture with Truecaller in India,” Jhunjhunwala said. “I firmly believe that Truecaller will continue to transform the way the world communicates and bring great value to people around the world.”

Before joining the Swedish firm, Jhunjhunwala’s LinkedIn profile shows that he was the vice president of strategic programmes at Cisco’s July Systems. He also co-founded two ventures -- Verity Technologies and Cloud Magic.

“We wanted a leader like Rishit who can connect deeply with customers, employees and partners alike with his 6 years of extensive experience within the company. This is important as India is closest to the heart of the company with over 60% of our users from India,” Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder at Truecaller, said in the statement.

Currently, Truecaller has over 270 million active users around the world. Of these, around 200 million are based in India, making the country a key market for the company.
