Flipkart adds three new fulfilment centres in Karnataka

Walmart backed e-commerce platform Flipkart has announced the addition of three new fulfilment centres across Kolar, Hubli and Anekal in Karnataka ahead of the festive season.

The new centres are spread over a collective area of 7 lakh square feet and will directly support 10,500 sellers from the state.

Flipkart already has nine supply chain facilities in Karnataka including fulfilment centres and sortation hubs spread over 23 lakh square feet area.

The facilities provide 26,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, said the company in a statement, adding that the three new centres will provide 14,000 new direct and indirect job opportunities.

“As a committed corporate citizen, our endeavour is to create value for all our stakeholders as we on-board lakhs of MSMEs and small sellers to serve millions of consumers from all the country,” Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate officer at Flipkart Group, said in the statement.

He added, “In this journey, we have invested in a tech-enabled supply chain network that is helping create thousands of direct job opportunities across the country and also aiding indirect job opportunities in ancillary industries.”

Recently, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said that Flipkart marketplace has a seller base of 3 lakh.

The company raised $3.6 billion in July led by SoftBank for investments in people, technology, infrastructure and supply chain.
