Edtech platform Byju’s has roped in Anil Goel, former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of online hotel agency and chain OYO, as its new president of technology.  

In his role, the BITS Pilani alumnus will be responsible for strategising the direction of technology within Byju’s and its group companies, along with brining in new technologies to better learning outcomes.  

He will also be responsible for product development, network operations and implementing software applications and IT infrastructure.

“Anil is a proven leader with over 25 years of rich experience in building technology systems and processes in different organisations.  

At Byju’s, he will play a key role in building the next generation technology in the education space,” said Pravin Prakash, Chief People Officer, Byju’s.   

Goel, who will be working out of Gurgaon, previously served as the Group Chief Technology and Product Officer for OYO for a period of five years.

As the CTO of OYO, he led the engineering, product, design and other IT related operations.  

He also was responsible for building more than 30 products, supported by over 500 microservices architecture.   

Goel also helped OYO integrate its IT stack with the multiple companies it acquired.

“We will focus on developing tech-driven solutions that will empower students with high-quality education and provide engaging learning experiences”, said Goel, commenting on his appointment.   

Goel holds an MBA degree in Marketing from the City University of Seattle. Before OYO, he held key leadership positions in Amazon, RealNetworks and Hyperquality where he planned and built large software systems.   

Recently, Mint reported that Byju’s a debt round of $1.2 billion in debt, which is more than double of its previous target.

The company plans to utilise the funds to rake in more acquisitions and scale its existing platform.
