Athleisure-based e-commerce platform MPL Sports announced a partnership with e-commerce software-as-a-service (SAAS) platform Unicommerce. The company said that it will use Unicommerce’s inventory and order management platform to enable shopping for cricket fans in India. MPL sells a collection of official cricket merchandise, training gear modeled after on-pitch styles, graphic t-shirts and more.

The company already sells its athleisure items through its website, and e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Myntra and Flipkart. It will use Unicommerce’s solution to manage, automate and expedite the order fulfilment process and facilitate returns. The solution also offers visibility to stocks across locations using a single platform.

“They (MPL) are making cricket merchandise accessible to billions of cricket fans in India, and we are delighted to empower them with technology to ensure error-free and seamless delivery to consumers across the country,” said Kapil Makhija, chief executive officer (CEO) of Unicommerce. The Unicommerce solution also offers integrations with global marketplaces, carts, logistics providers, enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools and point of sale (POS) systems.

MPL became the second gaming unicorn from India in September this year, announcing a $150 million funding round from investors Legatum Capital and more. The company was valued at $2.3 billion at the time, and competes with unicorn Dream Sports, which has similar products.

Unicommerce had said, on November 23, that it will spend $5 million to expand in the South-East Asia and Middle-Eastern regions. The company has clients in Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore, Philippines and more. In August, it had announced plans to increase its workforce by 60% and hire 150 new employees by the end of FY2022.
