Microsoft has announced that its Microsoft Defender for Endpoint can now detect vulnerabilities even in Android and iOS devices and with this, it now supports all major device platforms across the organisation-spanning workstations, servers and mobiles.

“Today, we are excited to announce the general availability of threat and vulnerability management support for Android and iOS in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. With this new cross-platform coverage, threat and vulnerability management capabilities now support all major device platforms across the organisation-spanning workstations, servers, and mobile devices,” the company said in a blogpost.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is a security solution that the tech giant provides for enterprises.

Vulnerability management support for Android and iOS is part of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s mobile threat defence solution, which enables customers to maintain a seamless and consistent experience across their device platforms, the post further read.

The new update will now do a vulnerability assessment of Android OS versions of onboarded Android devices, along with assessing apps that are installed in the device.

The tech giant has also specified that in the currently most-accepted BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) scenario the Defender will only support the apps that are installed for work purposes. The vulnerability check will not be done as default.

Similarly, vulnerability assessment of iOS versions will be done but currently, apps installed in iOS devices will not be part of the assessment. However, these will be added later.
