The Youtube account of Sansad TV, a government television channel that broadcasts live Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings, was hacked on 14 February midnight but was later restored in the early morning the next day. Also, the channel’s name was changed to “Ethereum” (a cryptocurrency) by the attacker, Sansad TV said in a statement.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Sansad TV said that its YouTube Channel got compromised due to ‘unauthorised activities’ by some scamsters on February 15, 2022 (Tuesday 1: 00 a.m.) including live streaming on this channel.

The statement also added that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in), the nodal agency for responding to cyber security Incidents in India, has also reported the incident and alerted Sansad TV. Later, YouTube started “fixing the security threats permanently” and the channel on the platform “shall be restored ASAP” (as soon as possible), it said.

The live streaming of the proceedings of both the house of the Parliament was kicked off in 2006. Last year, both channels were merged and a new channel known as Sansad TV was launched. There are 6.41 million subscribers on its Youtube channel so far.
