Binance hires former Microsoft VP, Agoda executive to lead development and scale of Web3 solutions

World’s largest cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance has hired former Microsoft VP Rohit Wad as its new Chief Technology Officer.

The Singapore-based company roped in Wad to take care of engineering scalable and complaint Web3 services and solutions. Additionally, Wad will also handle the security, stability and liquidity of the exchange, while keeping a tab of the evolving regulatory environment worldwide. The engineering team will also see new hires under his leadership, the company said.

Wad had been with Microsoft for more than two decades, along with other tech majors such as Google and Facebook. At Microsoft, Wad handled development work for projects related to MSN and Bing. In the early 90s, he also worked on key features for Microsoft Excel 93 and 97.

In his most recent role with Microsoft, Wad was the Corporate Vice President of Product and Engineering, handling Microsoft Teams, GroupMe and Skype.

“We are working on many Web3 experiences and solutions that will be transformative to billions of people, starting with the freedom of money,” said Wad. “I am excited to be able to bring the amazing advances and potential of Web3 technology to everyone.”

Wad brings a total of more than three decades of experience into Binance.

Along with Wad, Binance also hired former VP of Product at Agoda, Mayur Kamat as Head of Product.

Kamat will be responsible for Binance’s product strategy and will help build the team’s roadmap for scaling crypto adoption, while easing entry of users into Web3 technologies.

“Less than 10 per cent of the addressable internet population owns crypto assets. Our goal is to bring the benefits of Web3 technology to the masses by making the product simple enough that anyone in the world can use them,” said Kamat.

Kamat brings two decades of experience into Binance. Prior to Agoda, he led product teams at Google and Hiya, a company similar to Truecaller.
