In order to augment its research and development capabilities in its edge computing and metaverse segments across the globe, Lenovo will hire 12,000 technology professionals over the next three years. The new appointments will be in addition to around the 5,000 hires the company made during the last financial year.
The Hong Kong-based firm has revealed that there will be dedicated teams which will focus on ‘new product and business model innovation’. The teams will also work on ‘incubating technologies’ from ‘edge computing’ to technology. According to the company, this will help businesses capitalise on the metaverse, and emerging and disruptive innovation like next-generation AI and heterogeneous computing to help them prepare for the future.
“My vision for Lenovo’s innovation is to become one of the world’s leading ICT (Information and communications technology) companies, a pioneer and enabler of intelligent transformation,” said Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing
“Our investment plan will center around the 'Client-Edge-Cloud-Network-Intelligence' architecture, with a three-track approach to focus on short-, medium- and long-term payback. Our intention is to optimize between technology with quick market returns and foundational research, and between continuous improvement and breakthrough innovation,” the CEO further said.
Meanwhile, Lenovo has also outlined its vision to become net-zero in terms of carbon emissions by 2050, and is working with the 'Science Based Target' Initiative to establish goals to support this vision.
