US-based tech major Dell Technologies has come up with security solutions designed to help enterprises assess their zero trust and cyber resilience maturity as well as the ability to prevent, withstand and recover from cyberattacks.

The zero trust security model requires strict identity verification for every person and device trying to access resources on a private network, regardless of whether they are sitting within or outside of the network perimeter.

Dell has also announced endpoint security solutions to support hybrid work and ransomware protection for object storage data.

Dell’s new service offerings include Dell Cybersecurity Advisory Services, which are designed to find and address security gaps, determine technologies customers should implement, and help them learn how to enable continuous vigilance and governance for long-term cyber resiliency.

The new services also include vulnerability management that features Dell experts to regularly scan customer environments for vulnerabilities and provide a full picture of exposures and help prioritize patching efforts.

“In a multi-cloud world, an organisation’s cybersecurity strategy must transcend its infrastructure and extend to its applications and data," John Roese, global chief technology officer, Dell Technologies said at a pre-launch media briefing on September 30.

“We believe a Zero Trust strategy is the best path forward. Dell has the proven IT and security foundation, technology integration experience, and extensive global partner ecosystem to help simplify customers’ cybersecurity transformations,” said Roese.

Besides, the Texas-based company has also announced its plans to open a Zero Trust Center of Excellence (CoE) in the first quarter of 2023. The CoE is in collaboration with CyberPoint International and the Maryland Innovation Security Institute (MISI) and will be at DreamPort, the US Cyber Command’s cybersecurity innovation facility run by MISI.

Speaking about its relevance in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) market, Amit Midha, president, Asia Pacific & Japan, and Global Digital Cities, Dell Technologies, said that the launch of our Zero Trust Center of Excellence, as well as the new cybersecurity services and solutions, will enable our customers in the Asia Pacific and Japan to stress test their security architecture and enhance their cyber resilience. “This is especially critical in this ever-changing cyber landscape that we’re navigating,” he added.

Government agencies and businesses around the world are moving rapidly to adopt the cybersecurity practice of zero trust, a change from just a few years ago, believe experts. Palo Alto Networks, Thales, Microsoft, Okta, Zscaler, and Cisco, Akamai, AppGate, among others dominate the market at present.

Gartner, in a recent report, predicted that by 2023, 60% of organisations will use a Zero Trust security model instead of virtual private networks (VPN), a service that helps users stay private online. That's because the network infrastructure of enterprises is becoming more complex, with many employees working remotely, and hackers are constantly trying to break into a corporate network and steal data, it said.

According to the 2022 IBM Cost of a Data Breach Report, more than 80% of organisations studied had more than one data breach and the cost of data breaches now averages an all-time high of $4.35 million in 2022, which is up 12.7% over the past two years. However, it said that organisations that deployed zero trust saved nearly $1 million in average breach costs compared to those without it.
