Amazon India teased through a banner on its website on December 5 that read, “Prime Gaming is in India.” It further read that Amazon Prime would now be able to access exclusive content for a number of titles and a rotating collection of PC games every month to its Indian subscribers. However, just a few hours later, the banner was removed. The Prime Gaming website is now back to displaying a ‘non-supported country’ message. Amazon is yet to issue a statement on this.

This now-deleted update has caused a stir among the gaming community in the country, with many believing that work is underway in bringing this subscription-based gaming service to India. Currently, Prime Gaming is operating in several markets including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, etc. It was originally launched in the US in 2016 as Twitch Prime. This month alone, Prime Gaming started offering eight games in the US, including The Amazing American Circus, Rose Riddle, and Quake, among others.

Notably, in 2020, Amazon India launched access to in-game content like collectable characters, in-game currency, and Prime-only tournaments across mobile games for Prime members.

Amazon Prime’s rival Netflix has been offering gaming services since 2021 for subscribers on mobile devices. The video streaming platform ventured out into this field by introducing five games – Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoop, Card Blast, and Teeter Up – available in several languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Punjabi. This year in December, it was reported that Netflix would be expanding its gaming services platform by introducing three new games on Android and iOS devices.
