Apple will launch a new Apple Watch Ultra with a larger 2.1-inch display in 2024. This lines up with the information that eff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities shared last month, reports MacRumors.

According to the report, the present Apple Watch Ultra has a display of about 1.93 inches, so the 2024 model would have about 10% more screen real estate and would likely be the first Apple Watch to have a case size of more than 50 millimetres. The new Ultra will also be the first Apple Watch to use microLED display technology, bringing with it increased brightness, reduced power consumption, and an enhanced contrast ratio compared to the current generation of OLED displays.

The new watch will reportedly have Apple's largest watch casing to date, measuring in at over 50 millimetres in diameter.

MicroLED display technology is expected to be included in the new Ultra, giving it advantages over existing versions with OLED displays in terms of brightness, power consumption, and contrast ratio.

According to a report published by Trendforce, a Taiwanese research firm, MicroLED technology may allow Apple to release game-changing product improvements in the future, such as folding and rollable iPhone models or entirely transparent AR glasses.

Due to the high expense of manufacturing microLED displays, Apple's move to the technology is expected to take many years.

Meanwhile, Apple is still working on converting all of its panels to OLED technology. The Apple Watch was the company's first product to include an OLED screen in 2015, and the iPhone began using them in 2017. It is speculated that OLED-equipped MacBook Airs and iPad Pros will debut in 2024.

Last month, Pu also predicted that Apple Watch sales will fall in 2023 because of a lack of a major improvement to the device's specifications, reported by MacRumors on January 2.
