Zoom has announced the expansion of Zoom IQ, its AI-enabled smart companion. The company also said that it will use OpenAI to strengthen its flexible, federated approach to artificial intelligence.

Zoom's federated AI method draws on models developed in-house, from other top AI firms like OpenAI, and more.

The company aims at supplying models that can be trained to function based on the specific vocabularies and other parameters of individual consumers. Zoom IQ can automatically summarize meetings, provide ideas for composing emails, and construct messages depending on the context of ongoing conversations, as per the company.

Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom said, “We are excited to bring many more capabilities with new large language models. Our unique approach to AI will give customers the flexibility they want and help significantly improve collaboration and customer relations.”

Some of the Zoom IQ tools include a chat composer in Zoom Team Chat, which will allow users to easily compose messages within the context of ongoing conversations. Without having to record the meeting, the new Zoom IQ meeting summarizer generates a summary that can be sent through Zoom Calendar, Team Chat, and email.

By offering the host's available hours, even to external participants, the new Zoom Scheduler simplifies the process of choosing a meeting time. This works with Google Calendar and Office 365, and it's available in Zoom Meetings, Zoom Mail, and Zoom Calendar.

According to Zoom, the new Zoom IQ capabilities will be made available in April to a limited number of clients who have been invited to try them out.

Later this week, customers who pay for a Zoom meeting subscription will also gain access to the Zoom Scheduler at no additional cost. Free Zoom users will have access to this feature starting in April.

Zoom IQ's email drafting suggestion tool is supported by generative AI technology from OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT and Dall-E. This technology aggregates content from Zoom Meetings, Zoom phone conversations, and email exchanges.

Recently, Google introduced a feature in Google Docs and Gmail that uses similar generative AI to suggest a body of text based on a topic typed by the user. Microsoft 365 Copilot, a comparable solution for Microsoft's productivity tools, was also released.
