Epsilon Advanced Materials, KRI to invest ₹300 cr for new cell testing facility in India
Battery materials manufacturer Epsilon Advanced Materials is investing ₹300 crore to build Advanced Technology Centre in partnership with Japanese research firm KRI Inc. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish this state-of-art facility that will advance domestic battery material testing capabilities. The research facility will also generate employment opportunities for researchers and scientists through international collaborative efforts.
The facility will centralise and streamline testing processes, catering to established and emerging cell manufacturing industries through cost-effective solutions. It is expected to reduce reliance on overseas research and development and elevate India’s research landscape.
“The advanced cell testing facility will become a common testing ground, attracting cell manufacturing companies from India and overseas. This facility will be equipped to offer a wide range of testing services to ensure highest quality and performance of products,” said Shinichi Kawasaki, president of KRI Inc.
KRI is an affiliate of Osaka Gas and specialises in analysing and determining electric materials, nanomaterials, energy conversion and environmental conservation technology. With this partnership, KRI aims to provide commercial services related to advanced research and expand its global footprint.
The Advanced Technology Centre in India will offer specilaised testing services for battery performance materials like anodes, cathodes, electrolytes, and electrode formulations. The centre will also conduct battery testing and evaluation, failure analysis, research, and training programs. The research facility will offer cost-effective solutions and globally recognised certifications for performance material products.
"The signing of this MoU marks a landmark moment for Epsilon Advanced Materials and the Indian battery research and manufacturing ecosystem,” said Vikram Handa, managing director, Epsilon Advanced Materials. “With the mutual expertise of KRI and Epsilon Advanced Materials, we are confident that this advanced research facility will be the centre of excellence in battery materials and EV testing.”
