Developers working on Ruby on Rails, Javascript, iOS, and Android are most likely to remain in their current roles, showing a lower tendency to career switches, a new study has found. The study conducted by job portal Indeed found that professionals in the technology sector overall tend to display more ‘career-loyalty’.

Career changes are common and are driven by factors like pay, career advancement, burnout, or redundancy. Indeed’s analysis showed the technology sector has the lowest share of ‘outclicks’ by jobseekers at 38%. Indeed defines outclicks as instances where professionals seek job titles in a different category from their most recent job, as indicated on their resumes.

Even in the technology sector, Ruby-on-Rail developers (11.04%), iOS developers (12.08%), Javascript developers (12.23%), Magento developers (13.58%), and Android developers (14.24%), showed some of the lowest outclicks in their category. According to the study, such loyalty is driven by factors like competitive salaries and other associated benefits.

“The attractiveness of different occupations likely reflects varying combinations of pay, flexibility and barriers to entry. The ‘stickiest’ jobs tend to be specialised ones where workers have made a considerable investment in gaining specific skills and experience,” said Saumitra Chand, career expert at Indeed India. The technology sector is followed by the food, healthcare, and media in terms of resistance to career switches.

A separate study by the coding repository GitHub showed that artificial intelligence tools are playing a bigger role in developers’ work. Over 90% of the respondents said that they are using AI tools at work and 70% said that they offer an added advantage. The AI tools have also helped maintain healthy work pressure, with 41% of developers saying that it helps to prevent burnout.
