Microsoft has announced a new upskilling program in partnership with professional networking platform LinkedIn. Called the AI Skills initiative, it part of Microsoft’s Skills for Jobs program, offering a professional certificate on generative artificial intelligence. 

The new learning pathway from Microsoft and LinkedIn will offer works introductory concepts of AI, responsible AI framework, and first of its kind Career Essentials certificate in generative AI. Microsoft will also launch a trainer toolkit for teachers and facilitators which will contain downloadable, bite-sized content include a new AI course built for educators by Microsoft Education and content on the practical uses of AI. 

“AI skills represent the third-highest priority for companies’ training strategies, alongside analytical and creative thinking. AI has tremendous potential to empower workers, however, we need to ensure that everyone has the skills to use it. The new AI Skills Initiative marks a new beginning that will build on a new wave of technology innovation to come,” said Gunjan Patel, director and head – Philanthropies, Microsoft India.

Further, Microsoft has also partnered with data.org platform and GitHub for a new grant challenge for non-profit, social enterprises, and academic institutions to develop programs for training, skilling, and reskilling workers in generative AI. The grant will support organisations, especially those focusing on community-led implementation of generative AI for the benefit of marginalised population around the world. 

In addition to the financial support, the select organisations will get access to Azure-based cloud computing resources, data training and technical guidance, and Microsoft events.

To be sure, Microsoft-owned LinkedIn has released 100 new courses on artificial intelligence, including over 20 focused on generative AI, in March. Catering to working professionals at different levels, it includes Intro to GPT-3, Applied AI for human resources, Artificial Intelligence for Marketing, and Nano Tips for Using Generative AI Tools for Better Marketing Outcomes.
