Infosys names Sushanth Tharappan as HR head, replaces Richard Lobo

Technology company Infosys has named Sushanth Tharappan as its head of human resources. Tharappan replaces Richard Lobo who has been in the position since 2015, and will move on to take up a new role. 

Tharappan has been the head of Infosys’ leadership Institute since 2019. The institute offers a wide variety of leadership training programmes, seminars and workshop for Team Development. As per his LinkedIn profile, Tharappan is responsible for "succession planning and executive development".  

A bachelor of science from St Aloysius College and an MBA from Mangalore University, Tharappan has been with the IT services firm since 2000 in a variety of roles, including global head for talent acquisition, head of HR for products, platforms and solutions and chief people officer at Edgeverve.

Lobo will reportedly move to a special projects team under chief executive officer Salil Parekh. He has been a part of the Indian IT services company for over 22 years. An alumnus of Xavier's Institute of Management, Lobo received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology. 

The reshuffle marks the second C-level change in Infosys’ HR division. Earlier this year, Shaji Mathew took over as the global head of HR at the company. Mathew, who was earlier leading Infosys' Mysore centre replaced Krish Shankar who retired in March 2023. 

The IT services company is set to announce its first-quarter earnings on July 20. In the Q4 FY23 earnings call, the company had pegged its revenue growth for FY 2023-23 at 4-7%. As of March 31, 2023, Infosys’ total headcount stood at 343,234. The company ended the fourth quarter of the 2023 fiscal year with 3,611 fewer employees than the preceding quarter and its headcount growth for the year was 29,219, down 46% from last year’s net addition of 54,396. Attrition also fell to 20.9%, as against a 24.3% from the last quarter.
