Cognizant, Gilead Sciences extend partnership worth $800mn for 5 years
American multinational IT firm Cognizant has signed a deal with biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences to manage its global IT infrastructure, platforms, applications, and advanced analytics, while also driving digital transformation initiatives over the period of five years. The partnership — worth over $800 million — will enable faster development and launch of crucial medicines to combat life-threatening diseases such as HIV, viral hepatitis, and cancer.
Gilead’s digital transformation will be further reinforced through data analytics services, improving experiences for both internal and external clients across 40-plus countries and benefiting the company's 18,000 internal users, Cognizant said in statement.
In addition, Cognizant will assist Gilead in improving customer experiences by using generative AI and AI-driven automation during the transformation. Furthermore, Gilead will tap into Cognizant's Neuro IT service, known for its AI automation innovation, to further enhance its capabilities.
Gilead has been collaborating with Cognizant for over three years, adopting its technologies to achieve improved business outcomes.
Marc Berson, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Gilead Sciences said, “Through this collaboration, Cognizant has provided critical expertise to progress our digital transformation journey while enabling stable, secure operations. This has allowed us to advance research and commercialization of transformative treatments for some of the world's most challenging diseases. We look forward to expanding this partnership to advance to the next phases of our capability roadmap.”
Surya Gummadi, Executive Vice President and President, Cognizant Americas, said, “Working together our teams will be leveraging the latest technologies from automation to cloud computing, and Generative AI to help Gilead bring its products to market faster, more efficiently, and with higher customer satisfaction."
Earlier this month on July 18, Cognizant also announced the inauguration of an innovation and development centre in partnership with Max Life Insurance in Chennai. The main objective of this collaboration is to join forces and expedite Max Life's digital transformation efforts.
During the past weeks, major IT services companies have been actively disclosing significant deals. For instance, Tata Consultancy Services, also on 21 June, announced that it had bagged a $1.9 billion deal from UK workplace pension scheme Nest to digitally transform its scheme administration services.
