Dell Technologies and Nvidia have joined forces to introduce a suite of innovative generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. These solutions utilise Nvidia chips, which play a crucial role in supporting the technology behind OpenAI's popular ChatGPT.

The suite, built upon the Project Helix, covers a wide range of areas, including IT infrastructure, PCs, and professional services. These solutions aim to simplify the implementation of full-stack GenAI with large language models (LLM), making it accessible for organisations at any stage of their GenAI journey. The result is a secure and transformative solution for organisations of all sizes and across industries to achieve better outcomes.

Among the initial validated designs is a natural language generation and inference model, which utilises pre-built models based on Nvidia's NeMo end-to-end AI framework. These versatile models find applications in various fields, from image generation and chatbots to industry-specific models, including those used in healthcare.

Dell refers to this service as a 'blueprint' for generative AI, combining Dell APEX's computing, storage, and networking capabilities with Nvidia's hardware and software expertise.

“Generative AI represents an inflection point that is driving fundamental change in the pace of innovation while improving the customer experience and enabling new ways to work,” Jeff Clarke, vice chairman and co-chief operating officer, Dell Technologies, said on a recent investor call. “Customers, big and small, are using their own data and business context to train, fine-tune and inference on Dell infrastructure solutions to incorporate advanced AI into their core business processes effectively and efficiently.

Generative AI can help every enterprise transform its data into intelligent applications that enable them to solve complex business challenges,” said Manuvir Das, vice president, Enterprise Computing, Nvidia. “Dell Technologies and Nvidia are building on our long-standing relationship to enable organisations to harness this capability to better serve their customers, more fully support their employees and fuel innovation across their operations.”

Dell has also introduced Dell Professional Services for GenAI, that will offer support to customers in their adoption of generative AI. This includes workshops where Dell collaborates with customers to build AI adoption strategies, optimise existing processes, and modernise applications to prepare for the integration of AI into their systems.

While Dell is renowned for its laptops and monitors, the company also delves into server racks and enterprise hardware. Amid the AI arms race typically associated with big language model developers like Meta, OpenAI, and Google, other tech companies like Dell are actively exploring ways to leverage AI technology to their advantage.

Earlier this year, on February 6, Dell made headlines by announcing its intention to cut 6,650 jobs, which amounts to 5% of its global workforce, as reported by Bloomberg. This decision was taken in response to declining demand for PCs and laptops.
