The maker of Jira software, Atlassian Corporation has announced the appointment of Paranth Thiruvengadam as the India site leader and head of engineering IT service management (ITSM). With this appointment, Thiruvengadam will be leading the company’s 1,700 India-based workforce.

“Crafting ITSM product on both technology and business strategy provides a distinctive chance to introduce innovation and shake up the market for enterprise and small business products,” said Thiruvengadam. “Utilising the talent pool in a strategic location such as India uniquely situates us to tap into the top technologists while maintaining our competitiveness through a profound understanding of customer needs.”

An industry veteran, Thiruvengadam has over 20 years of experience in technology and business roles. He has been chief technology officer at  Clear (formerly ClearTax) and MedLife. He has a background in developing software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms, web applications, infrastructure and transaction platforms in domains like finance, supply chain, and healthcare. Thiruvengadam has also worked in senior positions in Yahoo!, IBM Labs and Walmart Labs.

A significant proportion of Atlassian's Indian workforce, constituting around three-fourths of their employees, is dedicated to research and development, comprising engineers, product designers, and associated professionals. The remainder focuses on support operations for the APAC and Europe regions. A large part of the company’s IT products are built by the Indian team including Jira Service Management and Atlassian marketplace.

In an earlier interview with TechCircle, Atlassian CEO and co-founder Scott Farquhar said that the company will begin storing data in an India-based data center from the first half of 2024. ““Whilst many companies are happy to have the data center somewhere in the cloud, there are many other Indian government agencies and regulated industries that require us to have an Indian data center. So we've made huge investments to be able to put our data in a data center in India. We'll be utilising Amazon's data centers in India,” he had then said.
