Electronics company HARMAN has launched a healthcare private language model called HealthGPT. The model is fine-tuned on open source LLM Falcon 7B with a knowledge base of a variety of healthcare data sets. As per the company spokesperson, HealthGPT has completed clinical trials for three health conditions –breast cancer, immune system diseases, and heart diseases. It aims to offer real-time, context-aware responses to help in decision-making.

“We found extremely high-quality healthcare data in the form of clinical trial studies. We have sourced over 50,000 such studies classified under three specific health conditions as the primary domains to start our research on,” Jai Ganesh, chief product officer (digital transformation solutions), HARMAN told TechCircle. “We have the right mix of tech and domain folks in our team, which means that it is not just data scientists, we have doctors and physicians as part of a team who were responsible for hand curating a significant number of questions and answers on the data set.” He claimed that the model is capable of answering very specific healthcare queries, offering as accuracy of upto 95%, based on HARMAN’s own internal assessment.

Ganesh added that in the future, HealthGPT’s scope will be expanded to include a wider set of health conditions. Samsung-owned HARMAN which primarily operates in six industrial verticals including retail, hospitality, and manufacturing, would release a similar model for these domains too.

As per the company, HealthGPT offers cost optimisation through advanced deployment techniques to significantly reduce the model size and the processing cost by one-tenth. It can be used for drug discovery and research by extracting insights from clinical trial data.

“HARMAN HealthGPT is an example of our capabilities that will help organisations utilise specific industry-trained models to better solve unique problems and add value for customers. With our long-standing AI expertise and ability to develop effective LLMs, we’re equipped to help our clients move past challenging roadblocks and fully capitalize on the exciting promise of generative AI,” said Nick Parrotta, president (digital transformation solutions) and chief digital and information officer at HARMAN.
