Vodafone Idea's enterprise arm, Vi Business, on Wednesday, announced the setting up of an Internet of Things (IoT) lab-as-a-service in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) . The IoT lab, established in December 2022, is dedicated to advancing standardisation and interoperability within the IoT ecosystem. Vi says to date, over 50 devices across various industries, including automotive, utilities, BFSI, logistics, and more, have undergone testing.

The lab is equipped to handle more than 175 testing scenarios, covering network and functional testing, field testing, application testing, compatibility testing, and adherence to the oneM2M standard. The facility has assessed over 30 use cases in various industries, such as AMI, connected car, POS, and VTS, while also scrutinising key components like devices, modules, SIMs, applications, and firmware.

In line with promoting the widespread adoption of oneM2M standards, which have been endorsed as the national standard for IoT solution design by the Bureau of Indian Standards, the lab is responsible for testing and certifying compatibility with the oneM2M standards. It not only validates network performance in alignment with the device but also facilitates the certification of solution interoperability.

Arvind Nevatia, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Vi, said, “Vi as the leader in the IoT segment is committed to its adoption across industries. We are pleased to share that Vi IoT Lab in partnership with C-DOT has enabled its partners with the right IoT deployment especially bringing standardisation and interoperability. We are delighted to further strengthen this partnership by establishing ‘centre of innovation’ which will bring synergies between Startups and the M2M/IoT Industry. This collaboration is a reflection of our ongoing efforts to improve the domestic IoT ecosystem while contributing to the growth of the Indian economy.”

Moreover, the Vi-CDOT alliance is actively nurturing the IoT ecosystem in India and empowering startups in the IoT/M2M domain by expanding the Vi IoT Lab into a 'Centre of Innovation. This expansion will serve as an incubation centre, offering startups the necessary technological and business platform to swiftly enter the market. The centre will also facilitate the adaptation of solutions in line with the OneM2M standards.
