Technology company HFCL Ltd. has been awarded an Advanced Purchase Order (APO) totaling ₹1,127.27 crore from public sector telecom services provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to implement a comprehensive upgrade of its optical transport network on a PAN-India scale, according to HFCL's recent exchange filing.

The network enhancement aims to provide the necessary bandwidth for BSNL to introduce 4G services and position itself for the future rollout of 5G services. The order's scope includes the design, planning, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning, and system integration of Optical Transport Network equipment across the country.

As part of the agreement, an eight-year Annual Maintenance Contract will be included, with BSNL paying ₹170.3 crore to HFCL. The execution of the order is set to be completed within 18 months from the date of the purchase order.

Following this network upgrade, BSNL is expected to have a data capacity of 12 terabytes, meeting its data requirements for the next decade, as per HFCL's statement. The company emphasizes its commitment to providing next-generation products and services with the latest technology standards and security-centric designs, strategically positioning them to support service providers.

HFCL Managing Director, Mahendra Nahata, mentioned, "Our comprehensive network upgrade will not only address the heightened demands of Enterprise and FTTH/Broadband services but strategically positions BSNL for the seamless launch of 4G services and the anticipation of 5G services."

In May 2023, HFCL joined hands with Microsoft to develop integrated private 5G solutions. These solutions leverage cutting-edge technologies such as IoT, Cloud, Edge Computing, AI, and Analytics to revolutionise various industry verticals, including manufacturing, retail & warehouse, mining, education, defence, railways, smart city, among others.
