Proximus selects Tech Mahindra to build technology platform

Belgian government-owned telecom major Proximus Group selected IT services and consulting major Tech Mahindra on Thursday to construct a technology platform called 'Tech Hub' designed to deliver connectivity solutions.

The 'Tech Hub' platform will be powered by Comviva BlueMarble, a platform with cloud-ready architecture. This move underscores Proximus' commitment to leveraging its superior fiber or 5G network, transitioning towards software-based solutions, and delivering innovative features such as 5G Slicing 'as a Service.'

The platform will empower enterprises to explore, purchase, and activate services offered by Proximus and its partner ecosystem through self-service options. By leveraging digital offerings, users will experience enhanced flexibility and efficiency in accessing and utilising connectivity services.

Antonietta Mastroianni, Chief Digital & Information Officer (CDIO) at Proximus, said that this new platform, the 'Tech Hub,' will blend these unique assets into new value propositions for customers in B2C, B2B, and B2B2X. "The onboarding, purchasing, and activation will be digital-first and offer a similar experience as the world's leading cloud platforms," he added.

Vikram Nair, President of EMEA Business at Tech Mahindra, said the evolving landscape of the telecom industry, with telcos increasingly focusing on reinventing themselves and exploring new avenues for monetisation.

He mentioned that Tech Mahindra will deliver a future-ready platform that will be instrumental in accelerating Proximus’s ‘Telco to Techco’ journey. “The partnership will leverage Tech Mahindra's extensive telecom expertise, 5G capabilities, AI proficiency, and cutting-edge IT services to revolutionise customer experience and drive business growth,” he said.

Tech Mahindra first collaborated with Proximus in September 2021 to transform its data center business and create a resilient digital foundation.

With a strong presence in the European communication sector, Tech Mahindra is actively engaged with over 40 telcos in the region, positioning itself as a key enabler of digital transformation initiatives across Europe.

In November 2023, Infosys partnered with Proximus to deliver an IT modernization and consolidation project. As part of the project, Infosys acted as a managing partner to synergize Proximus's and its affiliate's ecosystems, adopting an outcome-based model.

In July last year, Proximus announced plans to take over Route Mobile Ltd. for at least ₹5,922 crore through a 57.56% promoter stake acquisition, one of the largest ever cross-border deals in the communication platform space.
