IT services company HCL Technologies on Tuesday launched a generative artificial intelligence-based platform for software development projects. Called the HCLTech AI Force, the platform offers customisable suite of generative AI-based solutions that can be leveraged in different components of software development and engineering workflows

HCLTech AI Force is built on Azure OpenAI and claims to offer improved efficiency and developer experience. It is system agnostic and can also be integrated with Microsoft GitHub Copilot. The company statement also said that it integrates ‘robust security and governance measures, fostering secure innovation and growth at scale’.

“We take great pride in spearheading the art of possible in AI and are thrilled to unveil this exciting innovation," said Vijay Guntur, President of Engineering and R&D Services, HCLTech. "This platform is a true game-changer and some of our pilots with clients in the technology and financial services industries have delivered extremely encouraging outcomes."

Software development and engineering, like customer servicing, is one of the tasks that has been impacted by the advent of generative AI. A February report by management consulting firm Zinnov and engineering firm Ness showed that generative implementation for engineering workloads has resulted in 38% reduction in task completion.

The report, however, underlined that the productivity gains due to Gen AI tools in programming tasks may not be uniform across the hierarchy of developers. The percentage reduction was higher for mid-level (41%) and senior engineers (48%), as compared to their junior counterparts (35%).

A separate report on productivity gains, by Copilot-maker GitHub in January found that developers who report a high degree of understanding of their code feel 42% more productive than those with low or no understanding.
