US-based RingCentral secures pan-India licence from DoT

US-based cloud solutions provider RingCentral on Thursday said that it has received a pan-India licence from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to operate across 22 telecommunications circles in India.
The company received regulatory approvals from DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to offer enterprise-grade cloud telephony in the country in June last year.
In a statement, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)-listed firm said that it is the first cloud provider to deliver fully compliant Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) and Contact Center-as-a-Service (CCaaS) solutions for India, enabling multinational organisations to connect their global offices with India branch offices for seamless communication and collaboration across messaging, video, and phone with Global RingEX Select.

RingCentral’s RingCX provides companies with an omnichannel contact centre solution that delivers enhanced customer experiences. Global RingEX Select India connects teams across the globe with offices in India, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity and the ability to navigate the regulatory landscape so customers can focus on their core business operations. When used together, Global RingEX Select and RingCX enable businesses to improve workforce collaboration, the company said.
"Our comprehensive cloud solutions, Global RingEX Select and RingCX, enable seamless communication for organisations with offices in India, as well as those looking to enhance their customer engagement capabilities," said Sathesh Murthy, SVP of Engineering and GM India at RingCentral.
This new initiative is the part of RingCentral’s broader strategy to expand its footprint to major metropolitan areas to meet customer needs.

“Global RingEX Select and RingCX cloud-based architecture aligns well with India's digital transformation initiatives, offering scalability and flexibility that traditional on-premise solutions struggle to match,” said Denise Lund, Research Vice President of Worldwide UC&C and Telecom at IDC.
“As India continues to establish itself as a global hub for customer service operations, the two solutions provide rich capabilities with AI that any size company can quickly implement to benefit employees and customers,” he said.
In an interview with TechCircle on 3 June, Murthy said that India is crucial to RingCentral's product development and we plan to expand our presence here.

“We have already doubled our workforce in India and our innovation teams are making significant contributions. We are actively recruiting top engineering talent in areas like AI/ML, cloud computing, mobile app development, and DevOps. Our goal is to grow our team in India and drive innovation in our communications solutions,” he said.
Murthy also added that RingCentral is investing in expanding its office infrastructure as the country will continue to play a pivotal role in driving global business communications.
