Sify opens AI-Hub data centre in Lucknow

Sify Infinit Space, a subsidiary of Sify Technologies Limited, announced the launch of its AI-Hub Data Centre in Lucknow on Monday to enhance data infrastructure in northern India. Located within the HCL IT City campus on Sultanpur Road, the facility will be developed in four phases, with the first phase expected to be operational by June 2025.
The Chennai-based company stated that the data centre is strategically located near multinational corporations in the NCR and Lucknow region, designed to meet enterprise data processing needs. It features edge caching technology to optimize computing response times.
Raju Vegesna, Chairman of Sify Technologies, noted that the facility aligns with the company’s investment strategy and supports the state government's goal of establishing Uttar Pradesh as the data centre hub of North India.

The launch coincides with rising demand for digital infrastructure in India, with Uttar Pradesh aiming to become a key player in the data centre sector. The state government is promoting policies to attract investment in technology and artificial intelligence, positioning the region as a competitive destination for enterprises expanding their digital operations.
“The government is building an AI City in Lucknow, and the stable investment environment aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s AI potential. Sify’s expansion through this AI Hub Edge Data Centre is a significant milestone in achieving this vision,” said Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh at the launch event.
In September, Sharad Agarwal, CEO of Sify Infinit Spaces, told TechCircle that the company plans to modernize its data centres in response to increasing demand for AI-based applications, with an investment of Rs 6,000 crore over the next few years. He emphasized the need to prepare for AI workloads, noting that the surge in AI demand has significantly increased requirements for storage, cooling, energy, and infrastructure. He further added that the company's data centres can host a 130 kW rack, which is ten times higher than conventional usage.

The company has also become Nvidia's co-location partner after receiving DGX-ready data centre certification from the AI chip maker.
In addition to Sify Infinit Spaces, other companies like Yotta Data Services, Web Werks, and STT Global Data Centres have also announced plans to establish data centres in Uttar Pradesh, aiming to position the state alongside Bengaluru and Hyderabad as a competitive hub for data infrastructure.
