TCS unveils AI-powered MasterCraft to speed up legacy system modernisation

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched a new version of its TCS MasterCraft platform, incorporating Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Agentic AI capabilities. This upgrade aims to automate and accelerate the modernisation of legacy IT systems used by enterprises.
The updated MasterCraft tool is designed to reduce the time and cost required for modernising legacy applications by automating key processes. According to TCS, the tool enables faster extraction of business logic and helps avoid errors that may occur with manual intervention. The company reports that this solution can lead to over 70% cost savings and twice the delivery speed compared to traditional approaches.
Legacy systems, often built on outdated technologies, pose a challenge for organisations trying to adapt to cloud-based or modern digital platforms. Many of these systems lack documentation and are costly to maintain. TCS MasterCraft addresses these challenges by supporting automated code conversion and creating centralised knowledge repositories that store business logic and technical information for future use, the company said.

The IT services provider has also built an integrated DevSecOps pipeline into the solution, enabling continuous delivery throughout the modernisation process. Human oversight remains part of the system through human-in-the-loop features.
Ashvini Saxena, VP and Head, TCS Components Engineering Group and Digital Software and Solutions said, “Enterprises have large applications in multiple technologies and architectures over decades. We have leveraged GenAI and Agentic AI capabilities for extraction of business knowledge and conversion to augment this capability to deliver maintainable applications and data with powerful design repository.”
