Commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck has named Raghavendra Vaidya as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), with the appointment set to take effect from 1 June. He will take over from Marcus Claesson, who is stepping down from the role at his own request.

Vaidya is currently the managing director and CEO at Daimler Truck Innovation Center India (DTICI), where he has overseen IT operations. DTICI, headquartered in Bengaluru, is a captive unit to support Daimler Truck AG research, IT & Product development activities. It is equipped with software tools and hardware labs where the team works on connectivity, cybersecurity, Big Data and advanced analytics.

In 2016, Vaidya joined as Senior Vice President of IT at Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India, formerly known as Daimler AG. He has previously held several leadership roles at General Electric. With over 25 years of experience in the IT sector, Vaidya has been credited with strengthening DTICI’s role within Daimler Truck, particularly in areas related to engineering and IT. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore, and a Master’s degree in Software Systems from BITS Pilani.

Andreas Gorbach, Member of the Board of Management for Truck Technology, welcomed the appointment and acknowledged Vaidya’s contributions to the company so far. “Raghavendra has played a key role in developing our operations in India and brings extensive experience and leadership to the CIO role,” he said.

The outgoing CIO, Marcus Claesson, is leaving the company to pursue new opportunities. During his time at Daimler Truck, he led efforts to establish an independent IT structure following the spin-off from Daimler AG and helped expand vehicle connectivity across the company’s brands.

The company has not yet announced who will succeed Vaidya in his current role at DTICI.
