Chinese smartphone and communication devices maker OnePlus has partnered with Delhi-based technology company Optiemus Electronics Limited (OEL) to begin manufacturing premium Internet of Things (IoT) devices in India.

Production under this partnership has commenced at a facility based in Noida, where OnePlus is now assembling a range of IoT products alongside its already locally produced smartphones. This expansion of manufacturing is part of the company’s Project Starlight initiative, which focuses on enhancing localisation across its supply chain and promoting domestic production. The initiative also aligns with the Indian government’s broader push to boost electronics manufacturing within the country.

The first device to be locally assembled under this new arrangement is the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3. The neckband-style audio device is known for its ultra-low latency, rich bass, and clear audio performance, and has gained popularity among Indian users. Local production of this product is expected to reduce dependency on imports and improve the availability of OnePlus devices in the domestic market.

The partnership is intended to maximise localisation for OnePlus products, including sourcing components and assembling devices entirely within India. This is expected to not only reduce production costs but also improve supply chain efficiency and responsiveness to market demand.

Robin Liu, CEO, OnePlus India, shared, "At OnePlus, India has always been at the heart of our journey. Our partnership with OEL to manufacture IoT products locally reflects our strong commitment to Project Starlight."

"This collaboration is not just about technology—it’s about empowering local communities, creating meaningful innovation, and bringing smarter, more connected experiences to our India community."

By focusing on local production of IoT devices, OnePlus aims to improve accessibility and affordability for Indian consumers while also contributing to the broader goal of making India a global electronics manufacturing hub, the company said in a statement.
