Workday expands operations in India with new data center, workforce growth

Workday, a platform for managing human resources and finance functions, has announced an expansion of its operations in India. The move includes the launch of a local data center, the growth of its sales team, and deeper engagement with regional partners. These efforts are aimed at supporting both global companies with operations in India and domestic organisations modernising their systems.
A key part of this expansion is the establishment of a data center in India. Expected to begin operations in the first half of 2026, this facility will allow Indian customers to host Workday Human Capital Management, Financial Management, and Adaptive Planning solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS) within the country. This local hosting aims to support data residency and sovereignty requirements in compliance with Indian regulations.
Alongside the data center, Workday is increasing its local workforce and presence. The company has nearly 700 employees in India, with teams based in Pune and Mumbai. It has also announced plans to set up a new Global Capability Center in Chennai. This center will focus on product development and technology services for global operations.

"India plays a crucial role in Workday's global strategy, and these strategic investments, coupled with the upcoming appointment of a dedicated Country Leader, signify our deepening commitment to the region," said Simon Tate, President of Asia Pacific at Workday.
Manish Dubey, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Enterprise Technology at Sagility — one of the companies to which Workday is providing its services — said, "Workday has played an important role in helping us transform our global HR and Finance operations. It has provided us with the agility and insights needed for our extensive Indian operations — where we have our largest resource pool — to thrive in the fast-paced global environment."
