Tarun Kapoor to lead tech and digital affairs at Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals

Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, a contract development and manufacturing company in the pharma sector, has appointed Tarun Kapoor as Senior Vice President – Technology.

Kapoor joined the Delhi-based firm from Mankind Pharma, a pharmaceutical company, where he served as the Vice President of Digital Transformation. Kapoor mentioned his role is equivalent to a chief information officer’s role in the organisation.

Kapoor announced his appointment through a LinkedIn post. “I am glad to share that I have taken up the CIO role at Akums Pharma and its group companies to head its IT function and am designated as Senior Vice President - IT.

In his new position at Akums, Kapoor is responsible for driving the company’s digital transformation agenda, with a focus on AI, data-led innovation, secure IT operations, and aligning technology with business vision.

The company has a presence in over 60 countries worldwide. Over 12% of all domestically used medications are produced by Akums in almost all therapeutic segments, including a wide range of pharmaceutical products and services, including manufacturing tablets, capsules, and liquid orals, among others.

“I am aligning IT with business goals and vision, managing risk, fostering innovation, strengthening cyber security and modernising IT Infra, spearheading IT-OT, optimising cost, sweating existing assets, strengthening governance, minimising business risks, and enhancing business digital experience,” he wrote.

Kapoor joined Mankind Pharma in 2023 and led the development of the company’s digital strategy, focusing on improving customer experiences, streamlining supply chain operations, and using data analytics for better decision-making.  

Kapoor has more than two decades of experience across other leading organisations, such as BT Group, VFS Global, and CRISIL. He brings expertise in enterprise IT, cybersecurity, IT-OT integration, and business process re-engineering. His track record in leading large-scale transformation programs and building high-performing tech teams makes him a valuable asset for Akums’ growth journey.

He led the Technical Delivery team at UK-based telco BT Group. He also held the position of Senior General Manager of IT at VFS Global Services, a company specialising in outsourcing and technology services. During his tenure there, Kapoor played a crucial role in leading significant global business transformation initiatives, accumulating more than a decade of experience with the company, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Kapoor has completed his graduation in computer science with specialisations in software and mobile computing, and also obtained various executive management degrees and certifications from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and the Indian School of Business.
